The Library offers the use of computers to the general public for a variety of purposes. 

Computer services require a PINES library card or picture identification, except for Children's educational games and NoveList®

High Speed Internet Access is available, free of charge, to any adult with a PINES library card in good standing.  Persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with a library card in good standing.

Wireless Internet Access is available.  You will need your laptop, PDA or other compatible device with a fully charged battery and your library card. read more
  Plug It In service allows you to bring in your laptop and plug it in to our high speed Internet access in our study rooms.

Microsoft® Office on all computers, including Word, Excel, Photo Editor, PowerPoint & Publisher.

Heritage Room genealogy research offers a menu with a variety of  web sites, information from various genealogical and historical resources, plus Family Treemaker Archives on CD.

Educational Games for children focus on a broad range of school readiness topics such as reading, math, problem solving, grammar, geography and computer literacy.

 

 

Top 

GALILEO (GeorgiA LIbrary LEarning Online) access to the World Wide Web-based virtual library of over 100 databases indexing thousands of periodicals and scholarly journals including secured access to licensed products. Over 2000 journal titles are provided in full-text. Other resources include encyclopedias, business directories, and government publications.  Access is from our computers or if you have a library card in good standing and your own Internet access, we can provide you with the password.

 NoveList® is designed to use for those times when a you want help finding a good book to read.  You can search for fiction titles similar to ones you like, titles in the same subject area, titles by a favorite author, or other for other authors who write in a particular style

Computer Services also include:

bulletDownloading and uploading information and data using floppy, CD, DVD or USB devices.
bulletLaser printing in black & white or color from all public computers, and your own laptop.
bulletSession Management to give everyone an equal opportunity to use the computers.

Assistive Workstation

The Library also offers the use of an Assistive Workstation for those needing visual or physical enhancements for computer use.  Assistive Workstation functionality includes speech recognition software, screen reading, screen magnification, Braille reader, Braille printer, large key keyboard, and large mice.  The workstation has full Internet access along with our standard Microsoft® programs, Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint.

For those who are interested in regular use of this computer Library staff will work with you to create personalized settings on the computer that will be accessible each time you visit.  This personalized service is available by appointment only.  Please call 770-787-3231 and ask for our Computer Support Specialist.
