About Usernames and Passwords
The username is your 14 digit library card number. The password is your pin number. If you do not know your pin number you MUST present yourself with your library card at a PINES library to get a pin number. Pin numbers will not be given out over the telephone, fax machine or e-mail.
The first time you login to the PINES Catalog you will be forced to change your PIN number to a secure password. Once you login you have the ability to change your username, your password, and contact information for placing holds, so we know how to notify you that your hold items are available for pickup. |

Library Cards
|
A free PINES library card is available to all Georgia residents that can provide proof of current address such as a driver’s license,
utility bill or lease. Patrons of all ages may obtain a library card. A parent or legal guardian must sign for anyone under the age of 17. A library card is required for ALL
transactions including check out of items, renewal, and to place a hold (reserve) on an item that is either checked out of the library or is located at another PINES member library.
Persons who own property in Georgia may obtain a free card with proof of ownership. Persons enrolled in school or employed in Georgia may obtain a free card with proof of school attendance or employment. Out-of-State library cards are available to persons living outside of Georgia who do not own property in the state, who are not currently enrolled in school in the state, or are not currently employed in the state. The annual fee is $25.00 payable at the time the card is issued. Persons who will be in Georgia for less than 6 months, and reside outside of Georgia, can obtain a temporary library card. The card carries limited borrowing privileges and the fee is $12.50. |

Loan Periods, Renewals
|
Receipts: When checking out materials from the library you will receive a receipt that lists all titles and the date that each item is due back to the Library. If, for some reason, the receipt is lost, you may call 770-787-3231 to find out when the items are due back to the Library, or you can login to your library card account in the PINES catalog to see what you have checked out and when items are due back at the library. Loan Periods:
Most materials may be checked out for two weeks (14 days) and may be renewed twice if the item has not been placed on hold by another patron. Videocassette programs and DVD programs
may be checked out for one week (7 days) but may not be renewed. Renewals: You can renew items in person, by telephone or
over the web. If you have been using the Library Catalog from home, or if you are a first time user, you will be forced to change your PIN number to a secure password when you login to our new catalog. Once you login you have the ability to change your username, your password, and contact information when placing holds, so we know how to notify you that your hold items are available for pickup. |

| PINES | PINES (Public Information Network for Electronic Services) is a unique initiative from the Office of Public Library Services, Georgia Board
of Regents, to bring the vision of a statewide library card for Georgia to reality.
Phases One and Two of PINES have seen forty-one public library systems, comprising 211 libraries from across the state of Georgia, join together to implement a state-of-the-art automated integrated library system as well as a new set of policies which allows any citizen of Georgia to receive a PINES card, valid at any PINES library for borrowing materials. The PINES database lists all items owned by the 211 participating libraries, and all PINES library patrons can see and borrow books and other materials from any PINES library. PINES is centrally administered and managed. Project staff handle help desk issues, offer training and support to member libraries, perform system administration tasks, and purchase, install, and maintain hardware, software and peripheral equipment. A patron at any PINES library can see the holdings of every participating library, increasing his access to materials. Patrons' ability to borrow items from any PINES library makes the concept of "access not ownership" a reality in Georgia. An outstanding example of resource-sharing, PINES truly levels the playing field for all citizens of our state. Library directors, library staff, and the Georgia Public Library Service project staff have worked together to craft a system that works for everyone. The scale of this project is unprecedented; the state of Georgia is leading the way in cooperative public library efforts and cutting edge library technology for all citizens. |
