Books Audiobooks We have over 7,000 audio books in a variety of formats to meet your needs; cassette tape, compact disc, MP3 disc, and MP3 player (Playaways®. Most are shelved in the main stacks between the adult fiction and biography sections and are organized just like the other collections with a fiction section, non-fiction section and biography section. Playaways® and MP3CD's are on a special rack nearby. Large Print collections are intended for those who are visually challenged. This collection of 3,500 items is used by all because sometimes the titles are available in this collection and no where else, and sometimes you can find the book you want here because the regular version is in use. Large print is organized the same way as other collections. There is a fiction section, non-fiction section and a biography section. Magazines are available for checkout except for the current issue of any publication. We currently subscribe to approximately 125 different magazines and keep up to two years of back issues. Some of the most popular, like Consumer Reports, are kept at the Information Desk to make sure they are available when you want to use them. Here's a link to our current list of magazine titles. Movies are available in video (VHS) and DVD formats. These are housed in the Audio Visual (AV) area across from the Information Desk. Each format is arranged the same way; by fiction, non-fiction and biography. Fiction is arranged by the title of the movie, non-fiction is arranged in Dewey Decimal order and biography is arranged by the subject of the biography. Music on compact disc is organized into categories like the retail music stores. Although we use quite a few categories some are classical, rock, jazz, country, world, soundtracks and many more. We have about 1,500 recordings in the quickly growing adult music collection. Newspapers We subscribe to the following newspapers: Atlanta Business Chronicle Paperbacks are normally not found in our catalog and are found on racks that spin (spinners) near the check out desk. We have a variety of titles that are loosely organized into broad genres areas such as mystery, romance, westerns for you to browse through and checkout. Housed in the Garden room this is a circulating (another library word for you can check it out) collection all about gardening, the plants, the dirt, the ponds, the landscaping, the weeds and everything else having to do with gardens and gardening. This collection acknowledges and serves the local interest in gardens and gardening. Our local garden clubs are great supporters of the library. The library supports gardening and has been awarded the "Outstanding Urban Tree Steward" award by the City of Covington Tree Preservation Board. Genealogy and local history are the focus of the collection housed in the Heritage Room. The collection concentrates on Georgia and especially on Newton County and the surrounding areas. The materials include census records and Soundex, Revolutionary War and Confederate veterans rosters, local newspapers back to 1868, the Georgia Death Index, county histories and the Official Records of the Confederate and Union Armies. A literate populace is an imperative in building and maintaining strong communities. We support the efforts of new, emerging adult readers by providing a collection of books and audio materials with adult topics on a variety of reading levels. Space is available for literacy tutors to work and store materials. The diverse general reference collection includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories atlases, computerized indexes to magazines and newspapers, medical, legal and financial resources, consumer publications, and career guidance materials. These books can not be checked out. |
