Easy Books are designed for younger readers and listeners. They are primarily pictures while textual content can range from no words (wordless picture books) to quite sophisticated stories. Children benefit from being read to from the earliest ages. Learning simple things like which way is up for a book, which way pages turn, recognizing the beginning, middle and end of a story, to learning colors, numbers and letters, can give any child a head start when starting school, and best of all, quality sharing time with the person reading to them. Beginning Readers are designed for children (and adults) who are learning how to read. This activity is one of the most difficult learning tasks we encounter in our lives. Accomplishing this huge goal requires lots of encouragement and assistance. We have shelves full of books that will help your child from the very first stages of recognizing words to more difficult reading with short chapters and fewer pictures Fiction and Non-fiction and Biography are chosen to meet the needs of children as the grow in reading proficiency, exploring areas they find interesting, to assist them in completing homework assignments, and reading for pleasure. Audiobooks and Read-a-Longs are available in cassette and CD formats. Some come with the books so that children can reinforce the reading skills by listening to the book while seeing the written words. Audiobooks are available for children of all ages. The easy reader users will find their audiobooks in the Read-a-long hanging bags while children reading mostly or totally on their own can find titles on the audiobook shelves. Kits are available for checkout upon request. Each kit is composed of paperback books and sometimes other formats that have a topic or subject in common like seasons, pets, friends or dinosaurs. Movies are available in video (VHS) and DVD formats and are shelved near the audiobooks. Titles for all ages of children are available and very popular. Music is available on the slat wall in CD format. Titles include lullabies for the youngest to spoken word radio shows and popular children's songsters. Magazines are kept in slant shelves with back issues kept behind or under the shelves (just lift up the bottom edge of the slanted display shelf. Back issues are available for checkout. Paperbacks are very popular and are near the door to the Children's room and on spinner racks near the Children's Information Desk. Many children's series books as well as a collection of easy readers that help children learn about the world around them are available. Reference books are available to assist librarians, parents, teachers, and children in finding answers to the many questions children ask on their own and for homework assignments. These books can not be checked out but can be used in the library building.
