Throughout the year the Library offers a variety of programs for adults and children including talks by authors, workshops, seminars, book discussion groups, story times, craft programs and Internet classes.  Some programs require advance registration.  All programs are free and open to all.

Arts & Crafts

Who:  All Ages
What: Craft project time
When: Once a month on a Friday afternoon at 4:00 PM; November 21st.
Where:  Children's Room
Details:  Once a month children can participate in a craft project.

Baby Talk #

Who: 6 to 18 months & parent
What: Storytime
When: Fridays at 10:30 AM and again at 11:30 AM; through November 21st.
Where: Children's Room - Story Room
Details: Parents and children come together to participate in 30 minutes of activities and stories emphasizing early literacy skills.

Home School Storytime

Who: Home schooled children, pre-school through 3rd grade
What: Storytime
When: Wednesdays at 11:00 AM; through November 19th.
Where:  Children's Room - Story Room
Details:  Each Wednesday morning, come hear stories and visit with our puppet, King Kenny.

Kid Tales

Who:  3 through 5 year olds who have not started kindergarten
What: Storytime
When:  Mondays at 4:30 PM; through November 17th.
Where:  Children's Room - Story Room
Details:  Stories and songs geared for fun and exploration of self and the world around.

Movie Day

Who: All Ages
What: Feature film showing
When: Monday, December 22nd at 2:30 PM
Where: Library Meeting Room
Details: While you wait for those presents, chill out with us with a current feature film for all ages.

Parents, Kids and the Library

Who: Parents, caregivers and anyone seeking books and information for children.
What:  informal class setting of instruction
When: Once a month on Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM - November 20th.
Where:  Children's Room
Details:  A program for parents describing what the library has to offer for them and their children along with a lesson on how to access information in the library.

Science Night

Who: Children in first through 5th grades
What: Program on a popular science topic
When: Once a month at 7:00 PM on November 6th for Astronomy.
Where: Children's Room
Details:  Once a month a popular science topic will be the center of activities, stories or just plain learning fun.  On November 6th the Charlie Elliot Astronomy Club will participate with telescopes and moon gazing. 

Toddle Tales

Who: Parent and toddler 18 months through 2 years
What: Lapsit Storytime
When: Tuesdays at 10:30 AM and again at 11:30 AM; through November 18th.
Where:
Children's Room - Story Room
Details: This is an interactive program for a parent and a toddler from 18 months through 2 years old. A parent must be present with each child for this lap-sit program. Lots of repetition, songs, and poems introduce toddlers to the world of words.

Who: For those who live in and around Newborn - All Ages
What: Storytime
When: Every Wednesday at 4:00 PM through November 19th.
Where: Newborn Library Service Outlet
Details: Storytime at City Hall.  Other services are also available on Wednesday afternoons; get a library card; renew books, and get answers to your questions. 

Teen Programs
Join us this fall for a new season of TEEN fun.  We dare you to "get caught between the pages!"  This when we play, talk books, meet other teens in the library. watch movies, draw anime characters and have an otherwise good time.  By the way, have YOU checked out your revamped TEEN ZONE?  Tell us your thoughts - talk back by sending us an email: teens@newtonlibrary.org

What: Anime drawing club
When: most Thursday nights at 6:30 PM.
Where: Story Room
Details: It's all about the art.  Bring your preferred sketching materials and share your techniques with others.

Teen Movie Nights

What: movies
When: Tuesdays, November 4th and 11th at 6:30 PM
Where: Story Room
Details: Join the laughter and fun!  Movies just for teens and tweens.

Teen Short Stories & Cookies

What: Teen story time

Details: Why not relax and listen to a few short stories while enjoying a delicious snack?

Teen World Art Greeting Card Night

What: Arts and Crafts
When: Tuesday, November 18th at 6:30PM
Where: Story Room
Details: Design your own card using recycled materials.  All materials will be supplied.

Congressman Linder Outreach Event 

What: discussion
When: every third Wednesday from 1:00—3:00pm
Where: in the Library lobby
Details: A staff member from Congressman Linder’s office will be available to answer questions, listen to concerns and help with Federal Agency assistance.

Digital Photography Class

What: Life Long Learning Opportunity
When: Saturday, November 8th at 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM
Where: Library Meeting Room
Details: Local photographer, Steven Foster, will discuss the use of digital cameras and provide handouts to help you get great photos.  No registration is required for this free program. 

Free Internet Classes

What: Up to an hour of personalized instruction on the Internet.
When: Most Fridays by appointment only.  Sign up at the Information Desk or call 770-385-6449 for an appointment
Where: Adult Computer area
Details: Limited to 2 students per class, participants will be introduced to the parts of the Internet browser, navigating through the Web, and looking for information with search engines. We will visit a few websites where we know the address and then search for others where the address is unknown. There may even be time for some personalized searching.

Library Bridge Club

Who: All interested players of any level or experience
What: group of people interested in learning more about bridge
When: The 3rd and 4th Wednesdays of each month at 11:30 AM
Where: Library Meeting Room
Details: Expert of novice, join fellow bridge players for games and free instruction.

Book Clubs

Brown Bag Book Club

Who:  Adults
What:  book discussion group
When:  every third Wednesday from 12:00 NOON until 1:00 PM
Where:  the Library Board Room
Details:  book discussion group for those of us who don't want to or can't meet in the evening.  A chance to bring your lunch and talk books.  Reading is in genre areas instead of all reading the same book.  Join us!

Chapter & Verse Book Club

Who: interested adults
What: book discussion group
When: the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 PM
Where: Library Meeting Room
Details: A new evening book discussion group will read and discuss works of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. 
 

"A New Chapter" Book Club

Who: All adults, especially those who are grieving due to the loss of a loved one.
What: book discussion group
When: Third Thursday in each month at 7:00 PM
Where: Library Meeting Room
Details: The Library and Abby Hospice have partnered to form a monthly book club to discuss works of fiction that help us understand the human experience.  Free and open to all.
